Tanzanian music icon Ali Saleh Kiba, popularly known as Alikiba, has urged older generations particularly those aged 80 and above to embrace life with joy and gratitude, drawing inspiration from the late Raila Odinga’s long and accomplished journey.

Speaking in Nairobi on Saturday, October 18, 2025, ahead of his scheduled performance the following day, Alikiba said that living to an advanced age is a blessing that should be celebrated rather than feared.

“Once a person reaches 80 years and above, you must be very happy because old age is a gift,” he said.

The “Mapenzi Run Dunia” hitmaker reflected on the fragility of life, noting that many people die young often before they have the chance to realise their dreams.

“There are people who die at three, four, or even ten years old. Some don’t make it past their thirties or forties. So when one lives long, it’s something to be thankful for,” he added.

Alikiba contrasted these premature deaths with Raila Odinga’s full life, saying his passing at 80 offered perspective on living meaningfully. He described the late opposition leader as a towering figure whose impact went beyond Kenya, shaping Africa’s broader struggles for freedom, justice, and development.

“Our father has left us after living a full life. He taught us so much and achieved greatly. All of Africa recognises him as a man who fought for justice and freedom,” Alikiba said.

The singer urged the elderly to draw strength from Raila’s story and use their later years to spread peace and wisdom. He emphasised that longevity is both a privilege and an opportunity to reflect on one’s contributions to society.

“He belongs among the elders who fought for justice and development across our continent,” he remarked.

Alikiba, who is among several artists globally mourning Raila’s death, also revealed that his Sunday concert would feature a moment of silence in honour of the late leader.

“During my show, there will also be a moment of silence for Baba Raila,” he said.

Raila Odinga, Kenya’s longtime opposition figure and former Prime Minister, passed away on October 15, 2025, in India, following a cardiac arrest. His death has triggered a wave of tributes across Africa, with leaders, artists, and citizens alike celebrating a man remembered for his resilience, courage, and lifelong dedication to democracy.
