Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard says the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League quarter-finals is the ideal preparation for Sunday’s League Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.
Arsenal secured a 3-1 aggregate victory over the German side, easing into the last eight, while City were eliminated from Europe by Real Madrid. Attention now shifts to domestic silverware, with the Premier League leaders aiming for their first major trophy of the English season, a key step toward a potential historic quadruple.
“We’re looking forward to it a lot,” Trossard said. “It’s one of our objectives as well and I think everyone will be ready for that. We’re still competing on every level now and we just need to keep going game by game. Every game is very important for us, so we want to try and win every game.”
The Belgium international provided the assist for Eberechi Eze’s spectacular opening goal against Leverkusen, which Trossard described as “an amazing goal… one of those goals you only score maybe once or twice in your career.”
Trossard praised the team’s first-half dominance and overall performance,
Saying: “It was a good performance from us, especially how we dominated that first half with a lot of chances… It transmitted onto the crowd as well. We just needed to get the business done and I think we did it in a very good way.”
Declan Rice added a second-half goal to seal the win and set up a Champions League quarter-final clash with Sporting Lisbon next month.
Arsenal now looks to carry this momentum into the League Cup final as they aim to claim their first trophy of the season and maintain pressure on Manchester City across all competitions.
