Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his team is ready to embrace the pressure of being the side everyone wants to beat as the new Premier League season gets underway.

The reigning champions will open their title defence at the Emirates Stadium on Friday against newly promoted Coventry, just weeks after lifting the Community Shield with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Manchester City.

After finally ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season, Arsenal enter the new campaign as favourites to retain the trophy and establish themselves as the dominant force in English football.

Arteta Welcomes the Pressure

Arsenal spent three consecutive seasons finishing as runners-up before finally going all the way last term. The triumph ended a long period of near misses and provided a major boost to the club's confidence.

Arteta, however, insists last season's success counts for nothing once the new campaign begins.

“We start from scratch, from zero, and we're going to have to prove we are at the level to go back to that position again,” he said.

The Spanish coach believes Arsenal must maintain their hunger and continue improving if they are to stay ahead of their rivals.

“If you give me the choice, I want to be first, I want to be hunted, and I want to be in control of our future, rather than depending on somebody else,” Arteta said.

The Community Shield victory over Manchester City provided an early indication of Arsenal's ambitions, with the champions producing a commanding performance against one of their principal rivals.

Arsenal Target Back-to-Back Titles

Arteta is aware that retaining the Premier League trophy could prove even more difficult than winning it for the first time.

He described the campaign as a “long marathon” and believes the experience of finally overcoming years of disappointment can help Arsenal handle the demands of another title race.

“We have the ability to improve, to evolve, and that's what I sense and I feel around the club, especially around the players,” he said.

Arsenal have strengthened their squad during the transfer window, with Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis joining the club, while Ezri Konsa is set to arrive from Aston Villa.

The additions are intended to give Arteta greater depth as Arsenal attempt to compete across multiple competitions while defending their domestic crown.

Coventry Return to Premier League

Arsenal's opening opponents Coventry return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after securing promotion from the Championship.

The Sky Blues' return to the top flight represents a remarkable turnaround for a club that dropped into the fourth tier in 2017-18 and endured periods of uncertainty over its home stadium.

Manager Frank Lampard knows the challenge awaiting his side will be significantly greater at the highest level.

“We will go through tougher times this year for sure because of the competition we're up against now,” Lampard said.
“It's just a reality that we need to be ready for.”

Major Changes Across the Premier League

The new season also begins with significant changes among some of Arsenal's biggest rivals.

Manchester City, last season's runners-up, start their campaign at home to Bournemouth on Sunday without Pep Guardiola, who stepped down after a hugely successful decade at the Etihad Stadium that produced 20 trophies.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has taken on the difficult task of succeeding Guardiola and maintaining City's position among England's elite.

Liverpool will also begin a new era when Andoni Iraola takes charge for the first time against Newcastle on Sunday.

Iraola was appointed after Arne Slot's dismissal following Liverpool's disappointing fifth-place finish last season.

At Chelsea, Xabi Alonso begins his tenure with a west London derby against Fulham on Monday.

Manchester United will open their campaign away to promoted Hull on Saturday, with the Tigers returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Tottenham, who narrowly avoided relegation last season despite significant spending, travel to Brentford, while Europa League winners Aston Villa face Brighton after losing several key players during the summer.

A New Season, a New Test

With Arsenal defending the title and several major clubs entering new eras, the new Premier League season promises another fiercely contested campaign.

For Arteta and his players, the challenge is to prove that last season's breakthrough was not an isolated achievement.

After years of chasing the summit, Arsenal now occupy the position their rivals are targeting.

And Arteta appears more than comfortable with that responsibility.
