MADRID, Spain — Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle to become the new owner of Spanish second-division club C.D. Eldense, the club announced on Wednesday.

Messi, 39, is reportedly close to completing a deal to acquire 100 per cent of the shares held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., Eldense's current majority shareholder.

The proposed takeover would mark another major step in Messi's growing involvement in football ownership and investment.

Messi Expands Spanish Football Interests

If completed, the transaction would make Messi the majority owner of a second Spanish club.

The Argentine forward already acquired UE Cornellà, a club competing in Spain's fifth tier, earlier this year.

Messi is also expected to receive a stake in his current club, Inter Miami, following the expiry of his playing contract.

Reports in Spain indicate that the Eldense transaction could be finalised in the coming days, although several legal and regulatory requirements remain outstanding.

Final Approval Still Required

Eldense said the agreement remains subject to the completion of several procedures before the takeover can officially be concluded.

“At this time, the operation is pending completion of the final legal and contractual procedures, including the corresponding due diligence process, as well as the mandatory authorisation from the High Council for Sports (CSD),” the club said.

The club did not provide a specific date for the completion of the transaction.

The deal will therefore remain subject to the relevant legal, contractual and regulatory approvals before Messi can formally assume ownership.

TH Soluciones Group, which currently controls the majority of Eldense, was also approached for comment.

A New Chapter Beyond Playing

The proposed acquisition highlights Messi's expanding interests away from his career on the pitch.

Widely regarded as one of football's greatest players, Messi has increasingly explored opportunities in club ownership and investment as he approaches the later stages of his playing career.

His potential takeover of Eldense would give him direct control of a professional Spanish club and add to his growing portfolio of football-related investments.

For Eldense, meanwhile, a successful completion of the transaction would bring one of the most recognisable figures in world football into the club's ownership structure.

The club's supporters will now await the completion of due diligence and regulatory approval before Messi's takeover can officially be confirmed.
