ODM Leader Oburu Oginga Travels to UK for Routine Medical Check-Up

NAIROBI, Kenya — Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for what the party has described as a routine medical check-up.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed that the Siaya Senator was abroad for medical examinations but said he was in good spirits.

“Yes, he is in the United Kingdom for a routine checkup. He is doing fine,” Etale said.

According to the ODM official, Oburu is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday.

UK Trip Follows Brief Hospital Visit

Oburu’s trip comes days after he was briefly admitted to Nairobi Hospital on September 1.

News of his hospitalisation prompted speculation about his health, which the veteran politician moved quickly to dismiss.

Oburu said at the time that he had only visited the hospital for a general check-up with his doctors and had subsequently returned home.

He also sought to reassure the public, saying he would personally disclose any serious health concerns.

“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.

Political Leaders Visit Oburu

Following his return home from the hospital, Oburu held meetings with political leaders and friends who visited him to check on his wellbeing.

The ODM leader has, however, largely stayed away from the political spotlight in recent days.

His latest trip to the UK is being presented by the party as a routine medical check-up, with officials maintaining that he is well and expected back in the country at the weekend.

Oburu, a veteran Kenyan politician and the elder brother of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has remained an influential figure within ODM and continues to serve as the elected senator for Siaya County.
