Construction of the Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, has reached 50 per cent completion, Principal Secretary for Defence Patrick Mariru has said.

Mariru made the announcement after inspecting the site to assess progress and determine whether the project remains on course for completion by the end of September 2026.

The mausoleum is being constructed under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence and is located next to the resting place of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice-President.

“We were here in July for the groundbreaking, and exactly one month since then, good progress has been realised. We are confident that we shall achieve the September completion target,” Mariru said.

Distinctive Design

The mausoleum incorporates architectural symbolism associated with Raila Odinga’s political career, including a distinctive pentagonal structure inspired by the historic Pentagon era.

According to Mariru, the project is intended to provide a dignified and lasting national memorial where future generations can reflect on Raila Odinga’s contribution to Kenya’s political history and public life.

The PS was accompanied during the inspection by Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Ali Manduku.

The visit formed part of a wider inspection tour of development projects being implemented under the Ministry of Defence across the region.
