Trial of Driver in Anthony Joshua Crash Adjourned to November

OGUN STATE, Nigeria — The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver accused of causing the December 2025 road crash that injured heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua and killed two members of his team, has been adjourned to November 17.

The case, which began in January before a magistrate court in Ogun State, was previously scheduled for September 10 before proceedings were moved to Thursday.

Kayode, 46, is facing several charges arising from the fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver's licence.

Prosecutors Allege Dangerous Overtaking

Prosecutors allege that Kayode was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team crashed into a stationary truck.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain the subject of the ongoing court proceedings, with the prosecution expected to present evidence supporting the charges against the driver.

Kayode remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by the court.

Anthony Joshua Survived Fatal Crash

Joshua, a two-time former world heavyweight champion, survived the injuries sustained in the December 29, 2025 crash and was subsequently discharged from hospital.

However, two members of his team died in the accident.

His personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, were killed when the vehicle crashed on the expressway.

The group had been travelling to Ogun State to visit Joshua's father when the collision occurred.

Police Raise Concerns Over Crash Scene

During earlier proceedings, police told the court that both vehicles involved in the accident had been removed from the scene before investigators arrived.

The development has formed part of the evidence surrounding the investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

The court will now hear the case again on November 17, when proceedings are expected to continue.

The trial is being closely followed because of Joshua's international profile and the deaths of two prominent members of his professional team.
