The Atlanta Hawks have confirmed that star guard Trae Young will be out of action for approximately four weeks after sustaining a sprained ligament in his right knee, the team announced on Sunday.
Young suffered the injury during the Hawks’ 117–112 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Following an MRI scan conducted on Friday, doctors confirmed the sprain but ruled out any major structural damage to the knee.
According to the team’s medical staff, the four-time NBA All-Star has already begun his rehabilitation program and will be re-evaluated in about a month to assess his recovery progress.
Young, who led the NBA in assists last season, has averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 assists per game so far this season, helping the Hawks to a 3–3 record.
If his recovery stays on schedule, the 27-year-old guard is expected to miss around 14 games and could make his return on November 30, when Atlanta faces the Philadelphia 76ers.
