Kenyan musician Bahati has shared an emotional tribute to the late Kevin Mburu Kinyanju, popularly known as Shalkido, following the former Sailors Gang member’s tragic death in a motorbike accident.

Taking to social media on Monday night, October 6, 2025, Bahati revealed that he and Shalkido had been planning to record a music collaboration just days before the young artiste’s untimely passing.

“You had just talked to my management on our collabo na mkapanga tuingie studio this coming week. Rest well, young king. Tutaonana baadaye,” Bahati wrote.

The award-winning singer also shared a screenshot of a direct message Shalkido had sent him on Instagram, where he humbly reached out to propose the project:

“Vipii bro, hope you’re doing well? Just said I reach to you, I’m really humbled kuomba collabo kwa D and Bossy Bahati.”

Shalkido, a former member of the popular Gengetone group Sailors Gang, passed away on Monday evening while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he had been admitted in the ICU after suffering severe head injuries and a broken leg in the crash.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his family in a TikTok video, with his cousin announcing the singer’s death alongside Shalkido’s father. His sister later confirmed to the media that the artiste’s body had been moved to the morgue.

Shalkido rose to fame as part of Sailors Gang, known for massive hits such as “Wamlambez” and “Wainame.” His death has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow musicians, many remembering him as a humble and promising young talent whose career was only beginning to flourish.
