Benin’s Republican Police of Benin has issued a wanted notice for nine individuals suspected of orchestrating the attempted coup nearly three months ago, offering a reward of over €30,000 for information leading to their capture.

The failed coup targeted President Patrice Talon and his government, with rebels accusing authorities of mismanaging security in northern Benin. The army has faced significant losses from Islamist insurgents operating near the borders with Niger and Burkina Faso.

The coup attempt collapsed after Nigeria deployed fighter jets at the request of President Talon, forcing mutineers out of a military base and state broadcast facilities.

Leading the wanted list is Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri, a former commander of an elite military unit. Beninese authorities say he is currently believed to be hiding in Lomé, the capital of neighboring Togo, though the Togolese government has not commented on the allegations.

Benin’s authorities are urging the public to report any information that could lead to the arrest of the coup suspects as investigations continue.
