A tragic incident has shocked residents of Kipsinende village in Konoin Sub-County, Bomet County, after a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his father following a dispute over land.

According to Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, the suspect, identified as Hillary Yegon, is alleged to have attacked his 56-year-old father, Joel Kipyegon Kosgei, during a heated argument at their homestead. Police say the confrontation escalated, culminating in a fatal assault using a kitchen knife. The victim reportedly succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding.

Following the incident, members of the public reportedly turned on the suspect, assaulting him before police arrived at the scene. He sustained serious injuries and lost consciousness before being rushed to Kapkatet Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police guard.

Officers who responded to the scene recovered the suspected murder weapon, which was found with bloodstains. The body of the deceased was transferred to Kapkatet Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with authorities reiterating calls for peaceful resolution of family and land-related disputes, which remain a recurring source of conflict in parts of the country.
