Gospel singer Daddy Owen has shared a surprising story about a school performance in Nairobi that left him shocked when students walked out after being warned that his music was “demonic.”

In a YouTube interview on Thursday, January 8, 2025, the singer recounted the incident, describing it as “the mother of all scandals” in his career. The performance was intended to be a surprise for the students, who were unaware that Daddy Owen would be the guest artist. At the time, his songs Kapungala and Tobina were chart-toppers.

“Saa hizo ndio my songs Kapungala, Tobina ziko top so nilikua surprise artist,” he said, recalling the moment he was introduced on stage. Expecting excitement, he was met with an unusual silence.

“There was no pandemonium,” Daddy Owen said.

As he began performing, the atmosphere quickly shifted.

“Nikianza tu ku perfom hivi, waka amka wote wakatoka,” he explained, describing how the students all stood up and left the venue mid-performance.

A Shocking Explanation Backstage

Despite the sudden walkout, Daddy Owen continued his performance. He later learned from a teacher that a pastor had addressed the students before his appearance, warning them about his music.

“The pastor was talking about how your songs are demonic, and they are influenced by the Illuminati,” Daddy Owen recounted. “He was very specific that you are an agent of the Illuminati.”

The incident left a lasting impact on the singer. “That is the only moment I thought about quitting music,” he admitted, reflecting on how serious and disheartening the experience was at the time.

Daddy Owen’s story highlights the unexpected challenges gospel artists can face, even when their music is intended to inspire and uplift.
