The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed circulating reports claiming that Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the gruesome Kware murders, has been apprehended.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DCI clarified that Jumaisi “remains at large” and that an intensified manhunt for the fugitive is still ongoing.

“We are aware of reports suggesting that the suspect has been arrested. These claims are false. The suspect is still at large, and our operations to apprehend him continue,” the statement read.

Jumaisi is accused of being behind one of the most horrifying murder sprees in Kenya’s recent history the killing of 42 women, including his wife, whose bodies were discovered dumped at the Kware dumpsite in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga area.

He was initially arrested on June 15, but later escaped from Gigiri Police Station on August 20 alongside 12 other detainees, prompting authorities to issue a bounty for his recapture.

The suspect later claimed in court that he was coerced into confessing to the murders, alleging he was being used as a scapegoat to protect more powerful individuals.

The DCI had remained largely silent on the case for over a year but revived the search shortly after a Citizen TV exposé aired on September 28, 2025, reigniting public outrage and scrutiny over the case.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could lead to Jumaisi’s arrest, describing him as “dangerous and highly elusive.”
