Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz has deleted all Instagram posts endorsing President Samia Suluhu Hassan following intense public criticism and backlash from fans.
The move came just a day after the Bongo Flava icon posted a lengthy tribute praising the Head of State as voting began in Tanzania’s October 29 general election. In his now-deleted post, Diamond lauded President Suluhu as a visionary and hardworking leader, commending her achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure.
He had also pledged his personal support and that of all institutions under his leadership including Wasafi Media and Wasafi Records vowing to vote for President Suluhu and her running mate, Dr. Nchimbie, in the election.
However, instead of the admiration he may have expected, Diamond’s endorsement triggered a wave of anger online, with many Tanzanians accusing him of being insensitive to the country’s tense political climate.
Social media users flooded his comment section, criticising him for aligning with the government amid growing concerns about alleged suppression of dissent and restrictions on opposition activity. Some commenters accused him of “choosing power over the people,” while others threatened to boycott his music and even target his Wasafi Studios if he continued to support the President.
The backlash came amid widespread post-election unrest in parts of Tanzania, including protests and calls for an election boycott, as opposition groups decried what they described as an unfair electoral process.
By Thursday evening, October 30, 2025, all traces of Diamond’s political endorsements had disappeared from his Instagram account a clear indication that the artist had bowed to public pressure.
Observers noted that the incident highlights the delicate balance public figures must maintain between personal political expression and public perception, particularly during politically charged moments in Tanzania.
