An Eldoret court has ordered Joseph Kipkoech Keino, accused of defrauding 18 job seekers of more than Ksh. 12 million, to begin refunding the victims by September 29, 2025.

Keino allegedly lured university students and taxi operators with false promises of lucrative hotel jobs in Australia, offering a monthly salary of Ksh. 900,000 plus free food and accommodation. Court records show he collected amounts ranging from Ksh. 300,000 to 1.8 million from each victim between March and July 2024.

Principal Magistrate Cherono Kesse directed Keino to deposit an initial Ksh. 150,000 by the end of September as part of the repayment plan. She warned that failure to comply would result in the cancellation of his Ksh. 3 million bond and a return to Eldoret GK remand prison.

The accused, who first appeared in court in September 2024 and denied the charges, is set to appear again on October 6, 2025, for a compliance hearing.
