Nairobi, Kenya – Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has unveiled a unique fundraising initiative to support celebrity barber Sam Kitiki, who is battling stage three stomach cancer. The plan, announced during a TV interview on Saturday, January 24, 2026, will see Kitiki charge up to Ksh30,000 per shave as part of a community-driven effort to raise funds for his treatment.
Rallying Support Through Sisi Kwa Sisi Foundation
Omondi explained that the initiative is being spearheaded through the Sisi Kwa Sisi Foundation, which has been mobilising Kenyans to come together in solidarity.
“This initiative to help Sam Kitiki is something big, and we are doing it through the Sisi Kwa Sisi Foundation. That is why I have been rallying Kenyans to come together and help him raise funds for his cancer treatment,” Omondi said.
Social Media Pressure and Emotional Appeal
The activist revealed that he had been following Kitiki’s story for some time, noting that social media users persistently tagged him in posts appealing for help. Matters came to a head when Kitiki wrote an emotional letter detailing his struggles, admitting he was contemplating giving up after losing most of his clients despite his passion for barbering.
The letter resonated widely, attracting more than 390 comments, many of which urged Omondi to intervene.
“The letter touched many people because he said he was giving up, noting that he no longer had clients despite his deep love for barbering,” Omondi recalled.
Uhuru Park Fundraiser
In response, Omondi devised a plan to create a physical platform where Kitiki could continue practising his craft while receiving meaningful financial support. The fundraiser is set to take place at Uhuru Park on Sunday, January 25, 2026, with Kitiki shaving clients as part of the event.
“I then got the idea of bringing him to a place where he could shave people and be paid well as a way of supporting him. That is why I asked people to go to Uhuru Park on Sunday, January 25, 2026, where he will be shaving,” Omondi explained.
VIP Shaves at Ksh30,000
Due to Kitiki’s health condition, organisers have invited other barbers and salonists to volunteer their services for the general public. Kitiki himself will be stationed at a VIP dais, where clients who specifically request his services will pay Ksh30,000 per shave.
“Because he cannot shave many people on his own, I asked other barbers and salonists to volunteer and come through, and many of them have agreed. As for Sam himself, he will be at the VIP dais, and anyone who specifically wants him to shave them will pay Ksh30,000,” Omondi clarified.
