Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has officially launched a nationwide campaign aimed at mobilizing Gen Z voters ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general elections. The initiative, which began on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Pwani University in Kilifi County, seeks to awaken political consciousness among young people by encouraging them to register as voters.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Omondi said the campaign will traverse universities across the country with the goal of ensuring that Kenya’s youthful population is well represented in leadership and decision-making.
“We will traverse the Nation to ensure all young people register and have a say in leadership and decision-making,” he wrote.
The Pwani University launch drew an enthusiastic crowd of students who engaged with Omondi as he stressed the need for Gen Zs to go beyond social media activism and take tangible steps toward shaping governance through the ballot box.
Just days before the launch, Omondi described Kenya as being on the cusp of a “new beginning.” In an Instagram message on October 1, he urged young people to embrace voter registration as the first step toward a generational shift in national leadership.
“Kenya will experience a NEW BEGINNING, a Re-Birth… Our time is fast approaching. There will be a generational change. There will be a NEW KENYA. We must not be caught off guard,” Omondi emphasized.
Framing the movement as both civic and spiritual, he added that Kenya’s transformation will be guided by divine providence and powered by its youth.
With the majority of Kenya’s population under 35, Omondi’s campaign taps into a growing recognition that Gen Z voters could play a decisive role in reshaping the country’s political future.
