FIFA has presented United States President Donald Trump with its inaugural peace prize, recognizing what the organization describes as his contributions toward promoting global peace.
The award was handed to Trump by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the 2026 World Cup draw held in Washington, D.C., on Friday. Trump, who has previously expressed interest in receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, had been widely viewed as a frontrunner for FIFA’s new honor.
Accepting the gold medal and trophy, Trump called the recognition “one of the great honors” of his life, adding that he and Infantino had “saved millions and millions of lives.”
Infantino and Trump have maintained a close relationship, with the FIFA president publicly praising Trump’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza and suggesting he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize. Trump has claimed responsibility for ending conflicts in Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo, despite ongoing violence in both regions.
The 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada will begin in June and will be the largest edition in history, featuring 104 matches across 16 cities.
