A Nairobi court has approved a request for former Nairobi Central Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OCS) Samson Talaam, who is facing a murder charge, to receive specialised medical treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

During proceedings on Tuesday morning, Talaam’s lawyer, Stanley Kangahi, informed the court that his client had developed a medical complication related to a previous kidney condition. Kangahi stated that Talaam had been unwell in recent weeks and required urgent assessment and tests by specialists at the national referral hospital.

The prosecution did not oppose the application. Consequently, the court granted the request and directed that Talaam be escorted to KNH to consult a specialist. The court also ordered that a medical report be submitted following the examination.

The case is scheduled for mention again on March 17, during which the court will also establish whether CCTV footage relevant to the case has been obtained. Talaam faces charges alongside other accused individuals.

This development highlights the ongoing judicial processes and the attention given to the health needs of defendants facing serious charges.
