Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has officially launched his presidential bid activities, signalling his determination to contest for the top seat in the 2027 General Election.

This comes just a day after the Jubilee Party formally endorsed him as its presidential flag bearer during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Friday, Matiang’i made his first major public appearance in Ndumberi, Kiambu Town Constituency, where he attended the launch of the Kiambu Youth Impact Circle SACCO an initiative focused on promoting financial inclusion and entrepreneurship among young people.

Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic youths at the event, Matiang’i emphasized the importance of empowering Kenya’s younger generation to drive the country’s transformation.

“The bold and innovative ideas our young people are putting forward to better our society give me great hope for the future of our nation,” Matiang’i said in a statement shared on his social media pages.

“For too long, we’ve been trapped in endless rhetoric with little service delivery. It is time to work and I am committed to working with our youth, including Gen Z, to rebuild our country.”

Political observers view Matiang’i’s remarks and outreach efforts as the beginning of a calculated strategy to connect with young voters a key demographic expected to shape the 2027 race.

Jubilee Party’s Endorsement

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, while announcing the endorsement on Thursday, said the party had unanimously agreed that Matiang’i would represent Jubilee in the United Opposition coalition and lead efforts to revive the party’s influence on the national stage.

“We have resolved that Dr. Fred Matiang’i represents us in the United Opposition. He now officially carries the flag of the Jubilee Party as our presidential candidate,” Kioni declared.

Building Momentum in Mount Kenya

Matiang’i, widely known for his firm, results-oriented leadership style, has been praised for his record in public service and his ability to execute policies effectively. His visit to Kiambu the heart of the Mount Kenya region is being seen as a deliberate move to consolidate support in a politically decisive region.

Analysts suggest that the former powerful minister’s early outreach could set the tone for an active and issue-driven campaign focused on youth empowerment, governance reforms, and economic transformation.
