Allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, paid an early morning courtesy visit to the home of Acting ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator, Dr. Oburu Oginga Odinga.

The senators were warmly received by Dr. Odinga and his wife at their residence, where they presented three sheep as a gesture of respect and solidarity. The visit, marked by humility and empathy, came as Oburu continues to shoulder the responsibilities left by his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa said the visit was intended to offer comfort and moral support as Dr. Odinga takes on his new role at the helm of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

“Early this morning, my brother, Sen. Methu, and I paid a courtesy call to the Acting ODM Party Leader and our colleague in the Senate, Sen. Oburu Odinga, at his home. We went to pay our respects and offer comfort, especially as he takes on the great responsibility of stepping into the late Raila Odinga’s shoes,” Karungo said.

He further noted that, as young leaders, they were privileged to learn from Oburu’s wisdom and leadership experiences, which provided valuable insights into public service and mentorship.

Senator John Methu also shared his reflections on the visit, confirming that they had extended their condolences and congratulated Oburu Odinga on his appointment as the Acting Party Leader of ODM.

“This morning, in the company of Sen. Karungo, we visited our colleague Sen. Dr. Oburu Odinga to offer our condolences following the passing of his brother, Raila Odinga. We also congratulated him on his new role as the Party Leader of ODM and wished him well,” he posted.

The meeting was particularly notable given the political differences between the visiting senators known critics of the current administration and Dr. Odinga, whose party is part of the coalition government led by President William Ruto. Despite their divergent political affiliations, the visit was widely viewed as a moment of unity and respect that transcended partisan boundaries.
