Grief engulfed Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Monday, November 10, 2025, as gospel artist Betty Bayo’s husband, Hiram Gitau, broke down in tears after doctors confirmed the singer’s passing.
In a Facebook livestream shared by Pastor Victor Kanyari, Betty’s ex-husband, Hiram was seen visibly devastated lifting his goggles repeatedly to wipe away tears as a family representative addressed the media. The emotional scene unfolded as relatives and close friends gathered around him, struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Moments earlier, the family had held a press briefing confirming that Betty had succumbed to acute leukaemia and severe bleeding despite doctors’ best efforts.
“We are here at Kenyatta National Hospital’s private wing. The spouse, the father of their children, and friends of Betty Bayo want to inform the public that today at 1:03 pm, we have lost Betty. It is no longer a rumour,” the family representative said.
She added that Betty had been ill since the previous week and was first admitted to AAR Hospital on Kiambu Road before being transferred to KNH on Friday, where she later passed away.
“The doctors did their best, but the will of God has been fulfilled. We are planning to move her body to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, and further communications will follow,” she added.
Betty’s death has sent shockwaves across Kenya’s gospel music industry, with tributes pouring in for the singer whose music inspired countless fans.
