Kenya’s Harambee Stars have moved up two spots in the latest FIFA World Rankings, rising from position 111 to 109 following their recent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.
The Stars secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Burundi in Bujumbura last week, but their momentum was halted after a 3-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their final Group F match on Tuesday.
Kenya concluded the qualifiers fourth in their group with 12 points, 14 behind group leaders Ivory Coast, who sealed a return to the World Cup after an 11-year absence.
Within the East African region, Uganda remains the top-ranked nation at position 83 globally, despite slipping one place after a 2-1 loss to Algeria. Tanzania’s Taifa Stars follow at 107, just two spots above Kenya, while Rwanda ranks 131 and Burundi has dropped four places to 145.
Across Africa, Morocco continues to lead the continental rankings, though they recorded a slight global drop. Senegal holds second place in Africa and 18th worldwide, followed by Egypt (32nd globally, up three spots), Algeria (35th, up three), and Nigeria (41st, up four).
Globally, Spain tops the new FIFA rankings, ahead of Argentina, France, England, and Portugal, who round out the top five.
The rankings also shape the seeding for the 48-team 2026 World Cup draw, which will include co-hosts United States, Canada, and Mexico, alongside the nine highest-ranked direct qualifiers from the November update.
Meanwhile, FIFA has confirmed the African playoff fixtures for next month, where Nigeria will face Gabon and Cameroon will meet Congo to determine which team advances to the intercontinental playoffs.
