Helicopters from the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have conducted 64 aerial missions in Mazandaran Province as part of an intensive operation to contain a fast-spreading forest fire in the region.
According to local reports, the blaze began on October 31 near the village of Elit, within the ancient Hyrcanian Forests one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.
Since the outbreak, the IRCS has deployed drones to track the fire’s movement while helicopters support ongoing suppression efforts. The agency confirmed that 18 emergency teams, three helicopters, two drones, and 15 rescue vehicles, including ambulances, have been working continuously to manage the situation.
Video released by the IRCS shows responders describing the challenging terrain and demanding conditions they face as they work to bring the flames under control.
