Italy’s Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri has confirmed that world number two Jannik Sinner will not participate in the upcoming Davis Cup Finals, where Italy is set to defend its title on home soil in Bologna from November 18–23.

Volandri announced the news on Monday, stating:

“Jannik Sinner has not made himself available for 2025. The Davis Cup is and will always be his home, and I’m sure that Jannik will come back to the team soon.”

Sinner, who played a crucial role in helping Italy clinch its first Davis Cup title since 1976 and successfully defend it in 2024, had previously expressed uncertainty about his participation.

The 24-year-old tennis star recently told reporters that he was still undecided about representing his country while attending the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Riyadh, which he went on to win after defeating Spanish rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner’s absence will be a major setback for the Italian team, which had been counting on his world-class form to power their campaign for a third consecutive Davis Cup title.
