Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed plans to restructure his party and hinted at offering Embakasi East MP Babu Owino a top leadership position.
Speaking on Monday, September 29, 2025, Kalonzo responded to Babu Owino’s public endorsement of his 2027 presidential bid, confirming that Wiper is amending its constitution to introduce a new structure that will include a party leader and four deputy party leaders.
“We are amending our party to make it like ODM. There will be a party leader and four deputy party leaders. I would wish to give Babu one party leadership,” Kalonzo said, signaling openness to the youthful MP’s inclusion in Wiper’s top ranks.
The move comes after Babu Owino suggested that Raila Odinga’s body language indicated he may not secure the ODM Nairobi governor ticket in 2027, prompting him to throw his weight behind Kalonzo.
Babu Endorses Kalonzo for 2027
While endorsing Kalonzo, Babu urged Kenyans—especially the youth—to register as voters, stressing that change at the ballot is the only way to unseat President William Ruto.
He likened the coming election to pivotal political moments such as Kenya’s 2002 transition from President Moi and the 2020 US election that unseated Donald Trump, urging citizens to prepare for a similar shift.
Babu accused President Ruto of dividing the nation instead of uniting it and insisted that Kenyans must use their collective power at the ballot to replace him with Kalonzo Musyoka.
Strengthening Opposition Unity
The exchange between Kalonzo and Babu marks a significant political alignment ahead of the 2027 polls. Kalonzo’s offer of a senior role to Babu signals an effort to bolster his party with youthful energy and strengthen opposition unity under the Azimio coalition’s broader umbrella.
