Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that he will lead a high-profile delegation to Bondo to pay tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in a solemn ceremony attended by national leaders, family, and a select group of mourners.

Speaking during the Ngemi Cia Watho Association Festival in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, on Saturday night, November 1, 2025, Kalonzo urged leaders from Mt. Kenya and Raila’s supporters across the country to join him on Thursday, November 7, in celebrating the life and legacy of the ODM leader.

“I welcome you to join me on Thursday so that we can go and shout Jowi! Let us honour Raila in a way that truly reflects his impact. Those who believe in the spirit of the 2010 Constitution should come with us to Bondo,” Kalonzo said.

Honouring Raila’s Legacy

Kalonzo lauded the late Raila Odinga as a patriot, reformist, and constitutional icon, praising his pivotal role in ushering in the 2010 Constitution, which redefined Kenya’s governance landscape.

“There is no way William Ruto and his allies can pretend to mourn Raila Odinga,” Kalonzo remarked, emphasizing that those who genuinely value constitutionalism and reform must stand united in preserving Raila’s legacy.

While he did not confirm whether Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would join the delegation, speculation remains that Gachagua may visit the Odinga family to personally offer his condolences. The Deputy President was notably absent from the state funeral.

Feeling Sidelined at the State Funeral

Kalonzo expressed disappointment that members of the opposition were not given an opportunity to address mourners during the state funeral, noting that Raila would have wanted inclusivity.

“It is unfortunate. This was a state funeral, and they should have allowed the official opposition to say something. That is what Raila Odinga would have wanted,” he stated.

He also criticized the muted acknowledgment by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, saying, “You could hardly hear when Kindiki mentioned our presence, but it’s okay.”

A Promise to Uphold Raila’s Vision

During his address in Bondo, Kalonzo eulogized Raila as a fearless reformist and champion of democracy, describing him as a man whose resilience and sacrifices for Kenya’s freedoms will forever inspire generations.

“Raila was a visionary who saw the promised land,” Kalonzo said. “It is now upon us to continue that journey and fulfill the mission he began.”

Kalonzo’s planned visit to Bondo underscores his deep personal and political connection to the late opposition leader and reflects a broader commitment within Kenya’s opposition ranks to preserve Raila’s enduring legacy of justice, reform, and unity.
