The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has sought to calm public concerns over possible disruptions following a strike notice by unionisable employees of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

In a statement issued on Saturday, September 27, 2027, the regulator confirmed that workers under the Kenya Aviation Workers’ Union (KAWU) are preparing to down their tools after a seven-day strike notice lapsed. This follows a failed crisis meeting between KAA management and union officials, which ended without a resolution to their grievances.

Despite the looming industrial action, KCAA assured travellers that critical aviation services would remain unaffected. The authority emphasized that air navigation functions—including air traffic control, communication, navigation and surveillance, and aeronautical information services—will continue to operate normally.

“Accordingly, the safety of aircraft operating within Kenyan airspace, whether overflying, arriving, or departing from our airports, is assured,” the statement read, reaffirming KCAA’s commitment to upholding international aviation safety standards.

The strike threat comes after KAWU Secretary General Moss Ndiema expressed frustration at the stalled negotiations, warning that the industrial action could intensify if their demands remain unmet.
