The National Police Service (NPS) has commended residents of Elgeyo Marakwet for their continued cooperation in Operation Rudisha Bunduki, a security initiative aimed at curbing illegal firearm possession in the Kerio Valley region.
In a statement shared on the NPS official X account on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, police reported that a resident from Sibow location had voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 rifle and six rounds of ammunition the previous day.
According to the NPS, this latest surrender brings the total to 282 illegal firearms, 2,039 rounds of ammunition, and one rifle grenade voluntarily handed over to security agencies since the operation began.
“The National Police Service acknowledges the support and collaboration given by the communities in the area. We encourage others still keeping illegal firearms to surrender them to the security authorities,” the statement read.
Just last month, 27 more firearms, including AK-47 and G3 rifles, were turned in to police in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County, through the efforts of local Peace Committees and community members from Ketut, Chemwonyo, Kibaimwa, Mon, Chesuman, Kaben, and Endo areas.
The NPS continues to praise the region’s residents for embracing peace and supporting the government’s efforts to enhance security in the Kerio Valley. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of communities through sustained collaboration and trust-building initiatives.
