Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has announced plans to rename the iconic Kipchoge Keino Stadium to William Ruto Stadium once its ongoing reconstruction is complete. The move comes as part of the county’s broader initiative to upgrade sports infrastructure and support athlete development.

The stadium, which was recently commissioned by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, has been temporarily relocated to the Kapsabet Showground to make way for the construction of a new, ultra-modern facility with a seating capacity of 10,000. The redevelopment is expected to provide state-of-the-art amenities for athletes and spectators alike.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new Kapsabet Municipality offices, Governor Sang highlighted the role of President William Ruto in mobilizing resources to strengthen sports programs in the region. He described the renaming as a gesture of appreciation for the President’s ongoing support for local sports development.

“The renaming of this stadium in President Ruto’s honour recognizes his commitment to nurturing talent and enhancing sports infrastructure in Nandi County,” Governor Sang said.

Once complete, the new stadium is expected to significantly expand opportunities for athletes, provide a modern venue for local and national competitions, and further solidify Nandi’s reputation as a sporting powerhouse in Kenya.

This redevelopment aligns with the county’s broader vision to invest in sports and create platforms that nurture both emerging and professional athletes, positioning Nandi as a key hub for athletic excellence.
