Days after residents of Kisii raised concerns over a violent youth gang terrorizing the town and surrounding areas, police have arrested 15 suspects believed to be linked to multiple criminal activities.

Kitutu Central Police Commander Kazungu Charo confirmed that the arrests were made during a special operation involving a coordinated multi-agency team. “The operation is bearing fruit, with major arrests made in areas that have experienced frequent security lapses, particularly at night,” Charo said.

Authorities recovered an assortment of crude weapons from the suspects, including machetes, knives, and steel rods, believed to have been used in violent attacks across various estates.

The arrests follow a recent report by local TV station highlighting the plight of locals living under the threat of the gang. According to the coverage, one resident had died while several others sustained life-threatening injuries.

Social media posts initially alerted the public to the gang’s activities, which were later corroborated by residents’ accounts of attacks occurring in their neighborhoods. Images circulated online depicted survivors with deep machete cuts, stab wounds, and other serious injuries, painting a grim picture of the violence.

Police continue to urge residents to report suspicious activity and promised intensified patrols to restore safety in Kisii town and surrounding areas.
