The late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng’eno, was laid to rest at his Mogondo home in Emurua Dikirr, following a tragic helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, that claimed six lives on February 28, 2026. The burial ceremony came days after a joint funeral service held at Emurua Dikirr Primary School.

The funeral was attended by President William Ruto and other senior government officials, who paid tribute to Ng’eno’s service, community initiatives, and dedication to unity in his constituency. President Ruto highlighted the MP’s empowerment of local artists, pledging to continue Ng’eno’s work by allocating Ksh. 20 million annually over the next five years through the Ministry responsible for Arts.

In recognition of Ng’eno’s leadership, President Ruto directed the Ministry of Housing to rename the Shauri Moyo Housing Estate in Nairobi as Johana Ng’eno Housing Estate. The Head of State commended Ng’eno for his pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s affordable housing programme during challenging times.

The President also announced plans to establish a campus of Maasai Mara University in Emurua Dikirr, pledging Ksh. 20 million and instructing the county government to secure land for the project within weeks.

Ng’eno, remembered for his community-focused initiatives, had spent the morning of the crash participating in search and rescue operations along the Mara River before attending a cultural celebration in Endebes. His untimely death marks a significant loss for the Kalenjin community and Kenya’s political landscape.
