Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has filed a Ksh. 20 million defamation lawsuit against George Opunga Tamata, a Kakamega-based blogger, accusing him of publishing false and malicious statements that linked the lawmaker to the disappearance and death of Munyuki High School Principal, Simon Isiaho Shange.

Through his legal team, Danstan Omari & Associates Advocates, Nabwera lodged the case at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, accompanied by a certificate of urgency. He is seeking court orders compelling the blogger to delete all defamatory posts, issue a public apology, and pay damages for reputational harm.

According to court documents, the alleged defamatory posts were shared on October 3, 2025, across Facebook pages titled “Kakamega Post,” “Malava Online,” and “Lugari Watchdog.” The posts reportedly insinuated that the MP was involved in the principal’s death, including phrases such as “vanished after defying an MP” and “come clean on the death of this teacher.”

Nabwera contends the allegations were entirely false and politically motivated, crafted to portray him as a murderer and damage his public image. He further claims that the posts have incited hostility, with threats made against his home in Lugari, and that the blogger has ignored a formal demand letter issued on November 8, 2025, seeking a retraction and apology.

In his affidavit, the MP says the falsehoods have endangered his family and caused significant emotional and reputational harm. He provided the court with screenshots of the posts, the demand letter, and messages allegedly encouraging attacks on his property.

Nabwera also acknowledged the recovery of the late principal’s body from River Kipkaren, extending condolences to the family and urging the public to allow investigations to proceed.

In his suit, the legislator seeks a permanent injunction to bar the blogger from publishing further defamatory statements, a public retraction and apology, and Ksh. 20 million in general damages for the harm caused to his reputation.
