Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has lauded his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino, calling him a “key pillar of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)” and a “true representative of the people.”

In a statement shared on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Mukunji praised Owino’s influence within the party, asserting that the youthful legislator embodies the true spirit of ODM.

“The ODM party does not define Babu — it is Babu that defines what the ODM party stands for. Usitishwe! The future belongs to those who stand with the people,” Mukunji wrote.

Babu Owino Addresses Wiper Party Speculation

Mukunji’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation about Babu Owino’s alleged defection to the Wiper Democratic Movement, led by Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking during a radio interview on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Owino dismissed the rumours, clarifying that his relationship with Kalonzo is personal and not political.

“Kalonzo has always communicated with Raila Odinga — they talk regularly. If Raila and Kalonzo can communicate, what’s wrong if I talk to Kalonzo?” he asked.

The Embakasi East MP criticised those branding him a rebel for maintaining contact with Kalonzo, stressing that such communication does not imply political disloyalty.

“When Kalonzo was in Azimio, everyone said he was a good man. What has changed now? Leaving politics aside, if Kalonzo can still talk to Baba, why can’t I talk to him?” Owino added.

He reiterated that his continued interaction with political allies should not be misinterpreted, underscoring his commitment to serving the people and upholding the values of ODM.
