Former Moroccan international Mustafa Haddaoui has praised the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, saying the tournament has kicked off at an exceptional level both on and off the pitch, setting a new benchmark for football across the continent.
Haddaoui highlighted the vibrant atmosphere, reflecting the excitement felt by fans throughout Africa. He commended the smooth organisation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the host nation, noting that the efficient management of the competition demonstrates how far African football has progressed. “The tournament has started in a very promising way, and we hope the same high standards continue through to the final,” he said.
Pointing to the transformation since Morocco last hosted AFCON in 1988, Haddaoui emphasised the world-class stadiums, modern training facilities, and high-quality accommodation provided for participating teams. He credited the close collaboration between CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for delivering an event that showcases Africa’s growing capacity to host major global sporting events.
On the field, optimism is building around the Atlas Lions. Haddaoui believes Morocco are demonstrating they are serious contenders for the title, while acknowledging the pressure of performing on home soil. He noted that the team’s improving rhythm, combined with passionate fan support, could prove decisive as the Atlas Lions aim to lift the trophy in cities including Casablanca and Rabat.
“The level of organisation and the quality of the football are signs that African football is evolving,” Haddaoui added. “This AFCON is an opportunity to show the world what we can achieve both on and off the pitch.”
