Maweni, Malindi Constituency – Tragedy struck on Friday when an electric pole collapsed onto a home, killing a mother and her child. The incident occurred while the mother of seven was performing routine household activities.
Another child from the family sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Malindi Sub-County Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Malindi Hospital mortuary, with funeral arrangements expected to follow Islamic rites.
Residents in the area have expressed anger toward the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), alleging that the utility ignored repeated requests to repair faulty poles in the neighbourhood, raising concerns about long-standing infrastructure neglect.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, and investigations into the circumstances of the pole collapse are ongoing. Local leaders are urging Kenya Power to improve maintenance of electricity infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
