Brighton, England – Everton manager David Moyes has criticised Premier League regulations after being booked for sprinting onto the pitch to celebrate Beto’s stoppage-time equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

A Dramatic Finale

Everton trailed after Pascal Gross put Brighton ahead in the 73rd minute, but Beto struck in the seventh minute of added time, sparking wild celebrations. Moyes, unable to contain his emotions, dashed onto the pitch in delight, only to be shown a yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh for leaving his technical area.

Moyes’ Reaction

The 62-year-old Scot compared his exuberant celebration to the famous moment in 1983 when David Pleat danced across the Maine Road pitch after Luton Town avoided relegation.

“I hope you’re not going to call me ‘Pleaty’ going forward,” Moyes joked.
“The difference is David Pleat doesn’t get booked for it, they think it’s OK and everybody enjoys seeing the celebrations. We’re killing it that the managers can’t come out of their technical area to celebrate a goal, knee sliding, do things which give you people quite a bit to talk about.”

Moyes admitted he briefly considered a knee slide but thought better of it.

“Actually, if I’d been a bit more mobile, I might have done a knee slide. That would only have got me a yellow as well, so I might as well have gone the whole hog,” he added.

A Point Earned

The draw was crucial for Everton, who avoided defeat thanks to Beto’s late strike. Moyes insisted the booking would not dampen his passion or willingness to celebrate future dramatic moments.

“Asked if he would do it again, Moyes replied: ‘I bloody will do it again!’”

Conclusion

Moyes’ fiery defence of his celebration highlights the tension between football’s raw emotion and the strict enforcement of technical area rules. For Everton fans, his spirited reaction embodied the relief and joy of salvaging a point in dramatic fashion.
