Gospel musician Mr Seed delivered a spellbinding performance at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa, captivating attendees with a heartfelt tribute to the late party leader, Raila Odinga.
A video shared on YouTube by Azimio TV on Saturday, November 15, 2025, shows the ‘Kumbe Kumbe’ hitmaker emerging from behind a podium, dressed in full orange attire. He opened the event with Raila’s favorite song, ‘Jamaica Farewell,’ before performing his original tribute, titled ‘Farewell Song,’ singing each word with emotion.
During the performance, Mr Seed paused to invite the audience to join in, creating a moving moment of collective remembrance for the ODM founding father. “This is for Baba, we are doing it slowly by slowly,” he said.
His tribute focused on the national grief following Raila’s passing, emphasizing the void left by a leader who tirelessly defended the people. “Ati umetuacha nan ani baba tunahuzunika… Kabla hujalala tuite nani atutee baba umetuacha na upweke,” he sang, capturing the nation’s sorrow.
In addition to the tribute, Mr Seed performed some of his well-loved hits, including the 2017 song ‘Kumbe Kumbe’ featuring Bahati, and his 2024 release ‘Ex Wangu,’ a collaboration with Alphajiri.
The landmark event at the historic Mama Ngina Waterfront drew senior ODM leaders, including Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Chairperson Gladys Wanga, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. The celebration also honoured Raila Odinga, with festivities taking place across the coastal city.
President William Ruto and former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala were among the expected guests, joining a gathering that brought together long-time party loyalists, seasoned leaders, and a new generation of political figures.
This marked the first major ODM event since Raila Odinga’s passing in Kerala, India, on Wednesday, October 15, serving as both a tribute and a unifying moment for the party moving forward.
