Nairobi, Kenya – The Nairobi City County Government has unveiled LiquorPay, a fully automated digital platform designed to streamline liquor licensing by eliminating paperwork, reducing bureaucracy, and enhancing transparency and efficiency across the city.

The new system marks a significant step in Governor Johnson Sakaja’s broader initiative to modernize city services, curb corruption, and make Nairobi a more business-friendly hub through technology.

LiquorPay: A Seamless, Contactless Solution

County Executive for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, said the platform will address long-standing bottlenecks in the licensing process.

“LiquorPay is a fully automated, contactless system. From application and inspection to payment and approval, everything is now integrated, transparent, and efficient,” she explained.

Chief Officer for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Lydia Mathia, emphasized that the system is designed to support entrepreneurs by saving time and reducing uncertainty.

“This brings government services closer to traders and removes the frustration of queues and opaque procedures,” Mathia noted.

Enhancing Compliance and Accountability

Liquor Board Chair Mike Rabar highlighted that the platform will strengthen compliance and fairness in the sector through data-driven oversight.

Chief Officer for Revenue Tiras Njoroge added that integrated digital payments will help curb revenue leakages and enhance accountability, ensuring that county revenues are collected efficiently.

Director of Liquor Licensing Rhoda Otieno confirmed that backend systems have been synchronized to allow real-time inspections, approvals, and tracking across all sub-counties, ensuring faster turnaround times for compliant applicants.

Training and Transition

County officials, liquor board members, and sub-county administrators have been undergoing intensive training this week to equip licensing officers with the technical and administrative skills required to transition from paper-based processes to a seamless, end-to-end digital workflow.

Conclusion

The launch of LiquorPay represents a milestone in Nairobi’s digital transformation journey. By leveraging technology to simplify licensing, the county government is not only improving efficiency but also fostering a more transparent and accountable business environment. For entrepreneurs and traders, the platform promises reduced bureaucracy, faster approvals, and a fairer system of compliance.
