The Nairobi High Court has once again deferred the plea taking for Kithuka Kimuyi Musyimi, a person of interest in the murder of GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka, who was killed while on duty at one of the State House gates on October 13, 2025.
Court Proceedings
Musyimi has been in remand since October 14, 2025, when he was first arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts for a miscellaneous application linked to the murder. On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Lady Justice Diana Kavedza postponed the plea taking after hearing that Musyimi’s mental assessment report was not yet ready.
“I direct that the Kenyatta National Hospital hands over the mental assessment results for Kithuka, and the matter has been rescheduled to February 9, 2026,” Judge Kavedza ruled.
The report will determine whether Musyimi is of sound mind to plead to murder charges.
Details of the Incident
According to court papers, Musyimi was arrested near State House Gate D while armed with a bow and arrows concealed in a blue sack, posing as a street dweller.
A supporting affidavit by Bashir Boya, an investigating officer attached to the Kilimani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), states that Musyimi shot officer Khamisi in the chest, causing massive bleeding.
The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
“The respondent (Musyimi) shot and injured the officer who was on duty, causing him serious injuries on the left side of his chest that resulted in massive bleeding,” part of the application read.
The matter has now been postponed to February 9, 2026, when the court expects to receive the mental assessment report before proceeding with plea taking.
The case continues to draw public attention due to its proximity to State House and the unusual nature of the attack.
