The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent website operating under the name “Mverified,” clarifying that it has no affiliation with the agency.

In a notice shared on its official X account on Thursday, January 15, 2026, NTSA highlighted that the fake platform has been misleading motorists by posing as an official channel for traffic-related services. The authority confirmed that several Kenyans have already fallen victim to the scam, with some making payments through the site.

“Alert: Mverified website does not belong to NTSA. If you have been conned via this website, report the matter to the nearest police station,” the agency stated.

NTSA emphasised that all its legitimate services, including verification of traffic offences and vehicle records, are available only through officially recognised government platforms. The warning follows a previous alert issued in December 2025, when the authority exposed scammers sending fake SMS messages to motorists claiming they had unpaid traffic fines.

The fraudulent SMS instructed recipients to pay through an online link, which was not associated with NTSA. The agency clarified that this website was fake and urged the public to exercise caution.

NTSA is collaborating with investigative agencies to identify the perpetrators and prevent further losses. Meanwhile, motorists are advised to:

  • Avoid clicking on links in suspicious messages.
  • Refrain from responding to unverified SMS alerts.
  • Never make payments through unverified platforms.
  • Contact their banks immediately if they have made any payments to attempt blocking or reversing the transactions.
  • Delete fraudulent messages from their devices.

The authority reminded Kenyans that official traffic notifications are sent only via the recognised short codes NTSA and 22847_NTSA, and that the only official website is ntsa.go.ke.

This alert underscores the importance of vigilance as online scams targeting motorists continue to rise in Kenya.
