Siaya County Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga has thrown his full support behind Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, affirming that Sifuna’s recent statements reflect the true position and direction of the party following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during an interview with a local media outlet on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Oburu commended Sifuna for his steadfast communication and clarity on ODM’s stance.
“Whatever Sifuna says, he was within his rights to say so because that is the true position of ODM in the matter; he is not isolated. He is doing a good job,” Oburu stated, adding that Sifuna is effectively articulating the party’s principles and ensuring unity during this critical transition period.
Sifuna Calls for Unity Amid Leadership Transition
Senator Sifuna has in recent days urged ODM members and leaders to remain united and to avoid internal wrangles over Raila Odinga’s political succession. Addressing the media on October 27, 2025, during an ODM Central Committee briefing, Sifuna emphasized the importance of preserving the movement’s integrity and staying true to Raila’s vision.
“The Orange Democratic Movement must remain strong and committed to the ideals Raila stood for. Divisions would only betray his legacy,” Sifuna said.
He cautioned leaders against engaging in factional battles, noting that history has shown many political movements lose direction after the loss of their founding figures. “Let us resist the temptation to scatter in despair or to fight over his political inheritance as leaders often do when giants fall,” he urged.
Commitment to Raila’s Legacy
Sifuna assured party members that ODM’s leadership remains fully committed to keeping the party united and focused on the late Raila Odinga’s ideals of democracy, justice, and inclusivity.
“We commit here, in unison as we did during the funeral, that we will not be responsible for any break-up in the party or any unnecessary political turbulence that runs counter to Jakom’s dreams,” Sifuna affirmed.
With Oburu Odinga’s endorsement, Sifuna’s leadership message appears to have consolidated support within ODM, as the party seeks to chart its path forward while upholding the legacy of its late founder.
