The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially endorsed Boyd Were as its candidate for the upcoming Kasipul by-election, marking a significant step forward for the young politician and the party.
Speaking on October 8, 2025, after Were submitted his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna congratulated him on clinching the party’s ticket, calling it a proud moment for both Were and the wider ODM family.
“You belong to all of us now, and we are proud of the steps you have taken thus far,” Sifuna stated, praising Were’s victory in the primaries against five other contenders.
Boyd Were, son of the late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, emerged as the flagbearer following his win in a competitive nomination process. The by-election, set for November 27, 2025, follows the passing of his father, whose legacy still resonates strongly in the constituency.
Sifuna reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting its nominee throughout the campaign, emphasizing that ODM operates as a united front.
“When you enter ODM, you are not joining a normal political party; you are entering a system that stands by each other through thick and thin,” Sifuna noted, pledging national support from party leaders across various regions including the Coast and Turkana.
He also urged the youth of Kasipul to rally behind Were, emphasizing the importance of continuity, leadership, and honoring the late MP’s legacy.
Elsewhere, Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo assured the public of tight security measures ahead of the Kasipul and other nationwide by-elections, aiming to ensure a peaceful and transparent voting process.
In closing, Sifuna encouraged Boyd Were to stay focused and grounded, reminding him that the nomination is just the beginning of a larger journey.
“The journey ahead is still long, but we will walk it with you. This is about more than one person—it’s about the people, the party, and the legacy we uphold.”
