Media personality and comedian Dr. Ofweneke has strongly condemned Kenyans who use tragic events to seek attention online, following the untimely death of Kenyan artiste Shalkido.

Shalkido, best known for his contributions to Kenya’s Gengetone music scene, died on Monday, October 6, 2025, after sustaining critical injuries in a motorbike accident. He had been admitted to the ICU at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital before succumbing to his injuries. His family confirmed the news in an emotional TikTok video, where his cousin shared the devastating update alongside the singer’s father.

Ofweneke’s Message to Kenyans

In a statement shared on Tuesday, October 7, Ofweneke decried the trend of people using death to gain social media traction.

“Let’s normalise not using death for clout and likes!! If you really didn’t know the person, si lazima. How sick are you to try and get likes out of death!!” he wrote.

The comedian added that only those who truly knew Shalkido should speak publicly about him, highlighting Oga Obinna as one of the few who had a genuine relationship with the late artist.

“The only person who can speak of Shalkido is Obinna, who they were friends and alimsadia. Nyinyi wengine print hizo screenshots za maDMs na mtupe huko kwa matakataka!!” he said.

Bahati’s Emotional Tribute

Ofweneke’s remarks followed a heartfelt tribute from musician Bahati, who shared that he had recently been in talks with Shalkido about a music collaboration.

“You had just talked to my management on our collabo na mkapanga tuingie studio this coming week. Rest well, young king,” Bahati wrote.

Bahati also posted a screenshot of Shalkido’s message, where the late singer humbly reached out to request the collaboration — a gesture that has since sparked mixed reactions online.

As tributes continue to pour in, fans and fellow artists have remembered Shalkido as a passionate and promising talent whose life was cut short too soon.
