One person is feared dead following a tragic road accident on Saturday afternoon, October 25, 2025, after a lorry transporting alcoholic beverages lost control and rammed into a hardware shop along Mutarakwa at Limuru Junction in Kiambu County.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry was descending a steep slope at high speed when the driver appeared to lose control. The truck struck several obstacles before crashing into the building, trapping one person inside. The force of the collision was so intense that the vehicle’s rear wheels were left hanging mid-air while its front section was completely lodged inside the structure.
The incident caused panic in the busy commercial area as residents and motorists rushed to assist in rescue efforts before emergency responders and police arrived.
Witness Accounts and Calls for Action
Local resident Kiama Kamau described the crash as a shocking and terrifying scene, likening it to a movie.
“I was standing nearby when the lorry came downhill. I thought it would stop, but it didn’t. It went straight through just like something out of a movie. We really need bumps on this road,” he said.
Another resident, Patrick Muthenji, suggested that the accident may have been caused by brake failure or excessive speed.
Following the crash, the road was temporarily closed to allow for the recovery of the vehicle and the removal of debris from the site. Officers from Limuru Police Station were deployed to secure the area and launch an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Residents are now urging authorities to install speed bumps and warning signs along the stretch, which they say has become a known accident hotspot.
The body of the deceased was taken to a nearby mortuary as police continue their investigation. Authorities have also reminded heavy commercial vehicle drivers to observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to prevent similar tragedies.
