Salvation Healing Ministries founder Pastor Victor Kanyari has shared details of his final interaction with the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, saying the ODM leader personally called him from India just days before his death to ask for prayers.

Speaking during an interview with a local YouTuber on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Kanyari said he was deeply moved by Raila’s humility and spiritual openness, revealing that their last conversation took place four days before the tragedy.

“It is very sad news about Baba’s death. Even while in India, he called me personally and asked me to pray for him because he was not feeling well. I feel deep pain because we spoke only a few days before his passing,” he said.

Kanyari added that Raila had expressed interest in visiting his Njiru-based church, where he intended to witness the empowerment and community outreach projects being carried out. The preacher said the news of Raila’s passing hit him hard because the former Prime Minister had promised to attend a service at the ministry once he returned to Kenya.

“He told me that when he came back, he would visit Njiru to see the projects and attend a service. That is why this news has really broken my heart,” Kanyari said.

The pastor described Raila as a humble, generous, and visionary leader, noting that he had supported him politically for years and voted for him in all five elections he contested.

“I have supported Raila in every election because I believed in his ideologies and his vision for Kenya. His humility and love for the people made him a true national leader. His death has touched me personally,” he added.

First Encounter

Kanyari also reflected on his first meeting with Raila years ago, during the height of the infamous “310 scandal.” He said Raila extended understanding and empathy when he reached out to explain his side of the story.

“Raila was a humble man who did not live for himself. He lived for others and loved this country deeply. When I was being accused in the 310 scandal, I went to visit him in Karen and spoke to him over the phone. He told me to stay strong if I knew the accusations were false and reminded me that the truth would eventually prevail,” Kanyari recounted.

He said Raila’s words offered comfort and strength during one of the lowest moments of his life, leaving him with deep respect for the former Prime Minister’s character.

“That advice gave me hope and courage to move on. He showed empathy when many chose to judge,” he said.

While Kanyari’s revelations have stirred public conversation, observers note that his claims should be viewed with measured skepticism, given his increasing online presence and recent pivot toward TikTok-based content creation.
