Hundreds of protesters gathered outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday following a shooting by federal immigration officers that left two people wounded during a vehicle stop near a hospital.

The incident occurred outside Adventist Health hospital, prompting a swift response from local police. Authorities later located a man and a woman with gunshot injuries several miles from the scene, confirming their wounds resulted from the encounter with federal officers. Their conditions have not been immediately disclosed.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that officers opened fire after the driver allegedly attempted to run them over during what was described as a “targeted vehicle stop.” DHS also claimed that one of the passengers was a Venezuelan national linked to the Tren de Aragua criminal network, though these allegations have not been independently verified.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield confirmed that his office would investigate whether any federal officer exceeded their authority and would pursue criminal charges if appropriate.

Protesters expressed frustration at the lack of transparency surrounding the incident. “It’s just been chaos,” said demonstrator Angelisa Jones, noting that the community has been left to piece together information on its own.

The shooting follows closely on the heels of another federal enforcement incident, in which an ICE officer shot and killed a driver in Minnesota, escalating tensions over President Donald Trump’s expanded immigration enforcement policies. Portland, known for its long-standing clashes with federal authorities, has once again become a focal point for public demonstrations.
