President William Ruto is set to deliver his annual State of the Nation Address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. The address will take place in the National Assembly Chamber at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

The announcement was made through a joint notice issued on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and signed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi. The special sitting follows a formal notification from the President, in line with Article 132(1) of the Constitution, which mandates the Head of State to address Parliament once every year.

According to the notice, the President will use the occasion to outline the government’s policy priorities, report on progress in advancing national values, and provide updates on Kenya’s international obligations.

“Following a notification by His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Senate have convened a special sitting of the Houses of Parliament for purposes of the President’s address,” the notice read.

The session has been convened in accordance with Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate, which require formal notification to all Members of Parliament regarding the time, date, and venue of such a special sitting.

The State of the Nation Address is one of the most significant events on Kenya’s political calendar. It provides a platform for the President to update lawmakers and citizens on the administration’s achievements, key challenges, and future priorities.

Traditionally, the session brings together members from both the National Assembly and the Senate, with the President’s entry into the Chamber marked by the ceremonial maces of both Houses.

President Ruto is expected to highlight major milestones of his administration as it enters its third year in office, reviewing progress across sectors such as the economy, infrastructure, governance, and social welfare.

The Head of State last addressed Parliament on November 24, 2024.
