President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the Ukambani region is fully integrated into Kenya’s national development agenda, vowing that no part of the country will be excluded from progress under his leadership.

Speaking in Makueni County on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the president told residents that his administration would prioritize the region’s needs and ensure Ukambani plays a key role in shaping the next government.

“Hata kama ni kwa lazima, mimi siwachani na nyinyi… Mimi nawahakikishia, hii Ukambani haitabaki nyuma tena. Mimi siwezi kuunda serikali inayofuata bila watu wa Ukambani,” Ruto said, adding that he would continue visiting the area regardless of political differences.

The president said Ukambani had faced years of marginalization due to political opposition but emphasized that such exclusion would not continue under his leadership.

“Hii Ukambani imechelewa kwa upinzani siku mingi. Ndio mimi nimekuja kuwaeleza mapema, sitakubali mambo ya Ukambani ibaki nyuma,” he stated.

Ksh.3.5 Billion Healthcare Investment for Makueni

During the visit, President Ruto unveiled key development plans for the region, focusing particularly on improving healthcare infrastructure.

He announced that the national government had allocated Ksh.3.5 billion for the procurement of modern medical equipment for hospitals in Makueni County, including MRI scanners, ultrasound machines, and laboratory equipment.

“Tumetoa mwongozo ya kuhakikisha kwamba hospitali yenu iko na MRI, ultrasound, na equipment ya laboratory. Tumeweka mpango ya shilingi bilioni tatu na nusu kwa Makueni County,” he said.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure that medical services across the Ukambani region meet national standards.

Commitment to Regional Inclusion

Ruto’s visit is widely viewed as both a development-focused engagement and a political outreach to reassure Ukambani residents of their place in the country’s future.

By pledging tangible investments and promising representation in his next administration, the president said he intends to correct decades of neglect and promote inclusive development across all counties.

The assurance comes amid heightened political activity, as national leaders increase regional engagements ahead of the next general election, seeking to consolidate support and advance equitable development across Kenya.
