Police Issue Road Safety Warning Ahead of Festive Season
The Thika crash occurred just a day after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja issued a nationwide alert urging motorists and law enforcement officers to exercise increased vigilance as the festive season approaches.
Speaking on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi, IG Kanja called on police officers to enhance road safety enforcement, noting that the December period is traditionally marked by increased travel, traffic congestion, and a spike in accidents.
“The festive season is fast approaching, and it remains one of the most challenging periods, demanding heightened focus on both security and traffic management,” Kanja said.
He advised drivers to plan their journeys early, avoid speeding, and strictly follow traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary accidents.
Kanja also urged police officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and dignity in line with the National Police Service motto, “Service with Dignity.”
Authorities continue to monitor the situation at the Engen-Makongeni crash site, and further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
